Random grade sandstone retaining walls provide a natural, rustic look with blocks in irregular shapes and sizes. Unlike A-Grade or B-Grade, these stones are not cut to uniform dimensions, giving walls a rugged, organic appearance that blends seamlessly into natural landscapes. Retaincon will always complete with a nice flat wall, along with a flat top. We can also cater to rockery style projects.
This style is perfect for rural properties, garden features, or projects with character and authenticity. Every wall is unique, showcasing the natural beauty, colours and variation of sandstone.
Random grade sandstone consists of rough-cut and split blocks with highly irregular dimensions and face finishes. Blocks typically range from 300-1200 mm in length, 300-600 mm in height, and 400-1000 mm in depth, with no consistent tolerances. Variability in shape and size requires a higher degree of craftsmanship on-site for placement, levelling, and structural stability.
While less precise than A- or B-Grade, random sandstone still offers high compressive strength and durability, making it suitable for load-bearing retaining structures.
Recommended for all retaining walls, including rural, agricultural applications, house pads, sleeper wall replacement or landscape designs aiming for a natural, unrefined aesthetic rather than clean, uniform lines.
